New challenges and career guidance

Career guidance in times of economic instability is presented as a tool to generate economic, social and individual benefits. In response to a triple challenge for European citizenship.

The European Council resolution 2008 recommended that Member States of the Union facilitate the access of all citizens to lifelong guidance in order that they can develop management professional, such as communication, budget management, critical thinking career and project development.

These skills help them adapt to different professional contexts, including work or learning environments. The skills to manage career refers to how citizens use their core competencies in business to learn, manage work, communicate and identify and solve problems effectively and independently. They also allow them to make more structured and informed regarding their career decisions.

Member countries have designed various policies in education and job training to respond to the current situation. In all, the advice and guidance play an increasingly important role due to its effectiveness in developing the skills and attitudes that people need to develop professionally.

While focusing on individuals, the benefits of guidance and counseling go much further. The guidance and counseling unite the goals of people with economic and social objectives of governments and businesses. Being flexible tools that can help people realize their aspirations, while providing them a better view of their career prospects and their learning needs.

These policies can be used in enterprises, local communities or schools to improve learning outcomes, knowledge transfer, productivity and innovation. In short, guidance and counseling can help people and organizations to adapt and be productive in the current economic and social conditions.
